Cover image: Thermal infrared image of flying Brazilian free-tailed bats (Tadarida brasiliensis). This image, recorded with an Indigo/FLIR Merlin Mid thermal camera, depicts variation in the surface temperature of these bats. Thermal infrared technology makes it possible not only to detect and record the presence of free-ranging, nocturnal organisms, but also to investigate their physiology and ecology in a non-invasive manner (Image by Nickolay I. Hristov and Thomas H. Kunz). Submitted by Nickolay I. Hristov, Margrit Betke, and Thomas H. Kunz, "Applications of thermal infrared imaging for research in aeroecology."
